Riding Lessons
Rebecca Dennis Balanced Horsemanship can provide lessons for horse owners hauling in to Claddagh Farm in New Richmond, Wisconsin or on site at your location (travel fees may apply.) Lessons on a school horse may be available to a very limited number of students—please inquire to find out if you may be eligible.
Good horsemanship is from the ground up, so school horse lessons include all aspects of horse care beginning with leading and handling the horse, grooming, saddling and more! Ground work helps build a relationship with the horse that will carry over into the work under saddle, but moreover creates confidence and independence in the student that will apply to life away from horses as well!
Tailor-made! I believe in meeting horse and human where they’re at. When we work together with your own horse, your current skill level and his current training level will dictate our plan. Whether ground work or mounted, lessons focus on techniques promoting clarity, balance and progressing on a path that allows the horse to build his fitness, understanding, and ability. We’ll discuss how the rider/handler’s actions affect how the horse responds.
Don’t have your own horse? Short on funds but long on time? In cooperation with This Old Horse, you can get a Rebecca Dennis Balanced Horsemanship education by volunteering at Claddagh Farm and participating in Soul Train!
What you need
Long pants. Jeans or close-fitting leggings/breeches preferred, but please, no embellished jeans! The bling pockets are rough on saddle leather (and your own seat!)
Boots with a heel. Riders need heels for safety in the saddle. All visitors to the farm must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.
Riders under 18 years of age and all riders on site at Claddagh Farm must wear a riding helmet. You’re encouraged to have and use your own helmet. Bike helmets are not suitable for riding horses, but Fleet Farm and Tractor Supply Company are good places to get a riding helmet locally.
